Franz Antel was an Austrian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, and began his career in the 1930s. He is best known for his work in the genre of operetta films, which he directed and produced throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He also directed a number of other films, including comedies, dramas, and westerns. Antel was a prolific filmmaker, having directed over 100 films in his career. He was also a successful producer, having produced over 50 films. He was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art in 1975. Antel died in Vienna on 28 June, 2013, at the age of 100. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
